Palestine condemns Colombia’s decision on the Golan Heights
Ramallah, August 11 (Hibya) – The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the Colombian government’s recognition of what it described as Israel’s alleged sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
In a statement, the ministry said Colombia’s decision constitutes a clear violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and resolutions of international legitimacy, adding that the decision amounts to unacceptable support for policies of occupation and annexation.
The statement emphasized that Palestine firmly rejects this position and that the occupied Golan Heights are an integral part of the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic. It noted that the Golan Heights are occupied Syrian territory under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, pointing to UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981.
The statement said Palestine supports Syria’s right to recover all of its occupied territories and called on the Colombian government to reverse its decision and abide by international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.
The statement also said that achieving peace, security and stability in the Middle East requires an end to the Israeli occupation.
