French President Emmanuel Macron strongly condemned the damage caused to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, during Russia’s latest attacks on Ukraine.
Macron stated that it is unacceptable for historical and cultural heritage to be targeted during attacks on Kyiv in which civilians also lost their lives.
In his statement, Macron said that France is ready to cooperate with the Ukrainian authorities within the framework of UNESCO and will support efforts to protect cultural heritage.
Macron also said, “France is ready to cooperate with the Ukrainian authorities on heritage issues. This attack only strengthens our determination, together with our allies and partners, to do everything possible to secure a ceasefire, which Russia continues to stubbornly reject, and then to build peace. We will work on this at the G7 in Evian.”
