Belgium announced that it welcomes the agreement announced between the United States and Iran aimed at promoting peace in the Middle East.

Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot stated that they appreciate the efforts of Pakistan, Qatar, and other mediators who played a role in achieving the agreement.

Minister Prevot emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz should be reopened swiftly and that unconditional freedom of navigation must be ensured, adding that Belgium is ready to contribute to this process.

In his statement, Prevot said that the agreement should represent not only a ceasefire but also “a new era” for the region. He also stressed that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons and that the political system should become more responsive to the demands of its citizens.
