UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said police services must preserve their legitimacy by operating on the basis of justice, accountability and respect for human rights.

Guterres said, “International police cooperation is vital to better support survivors, apprehend perpetrators, disrupt criminal networks and improve security for everyone.”

Emphasizing that the law should provide protection for everyone, Guterres said, “Everyone deserves the protection of the law.”

Guterres called for stronger cooperation among countries, increased public trust and the creation of police institutions that serve with integrity and humanity.
