Fletcher: We are working to prevent a possible humanitarian crisis in Gaza this winter
New York, September 7 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Tom Fletcher said efforts are continuing to prevent a possible humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza as winter approaches, and issued an urgent appeal to the international community.
UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Tom Fletcher commented on the current shelter conditions in Gaza, the risk of epidemics and the humanitarian threats posed by the approaching winter.
Drawing attention to the difficult living conditions in the region, Fletcher said, "We are working to prevent a possible humanitarian crisis in Gaza this winter. Families are facing shelters that are collapsing due to disease and extreme overcrowding, as well as areas at risk of flooding."
Listing the steps that need to be taken to prevent the crisis, Fletcher concluded his statement by saying, "Fund the response. Ensure access to critical supplies. Approve the entry of necessary equipment. Implement the peace agreement."
