Information was provided regarding Foreign Minister Yorgos Gerapetritis’ meeting with Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Cyprus. The meeting assessed the process for restarting negotiations on the Cyprus issue.

It was stated that Greece supports a comprehensive and sustainable solution within the United Nations framework, based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation. Diplomatic contacts aimed at continuing the talks were reported to be ongoing.

Developments regarding the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran were welcomed. The statement said the agreement represents an important step for regional stability and the global economy.

The importance of completing the technical details of the negotiations and accelerating the agreement’s implementation process was also emphasized.

Ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz was highlighted as a priority objective.

Information was shared regarding Minister Gerapetritis’ meeting with Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander of the Libyan National Army. The meeting addressed economic cooperation, irregular migration, and cooperation in the field of transport.

It was also noted that technical talks with Libya on the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas are continuing, that the second round was held in Tripoli, and that the talks will continue.

It was announced that, at Greece’s request, the humanitarian situation in Gaza will be discussed at the United Nations Security Council.

Greece will reiterate its call for the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid and the protection of civilians. The importance of reviving the political process based on a two-state solution was emphasized.

As part of the Foreign Minister’s tour of the Western Balkans, it was stated that he visited Serbia and held talks with countries in the region regarding the European Union accession process.

The visit was said to aim at supporting the region’s European perspective and providing technical contributions to reform processes.

It was reported that regional developments, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Cyprus issue were discussed during the meeting between Gerapetritis and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

The parties were reported to have agreed to keep communication channels open.

The meeting also addressed developments in the Middle East, relations with Orthodox Patriarchates, the European Union agenda, and the implementation of the Schengen entry-exit system.
