US Vice President Vance: Iran must not possess nuclear weapons
Washington, June 18 (Hibya) - US Vice President JD Vance said that Iran has recently taken steps toward complying with the agreement and stressed that the core element of the deal is that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons.
US Vice President JD Vance stated that approximately 12.5 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours and that the United States allowed 12 ships to transit, adding that the de facto blockade has ended and that Iran has not fired on any vessel.
Vance emphasized that whether Iran complies with the plan going forward will be critical, noting that the fundamental element of the agreement is that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons.
He said that the only way for Iran to obtain economic benefits is through full compliance with the agreement, adding: “Not a single dollar will come out of the United States Treasury. Iran must change its behavior if it wants to benefit.”
Vance stated that Iran has two options: if it fails to comply, its nuclear program and military capabilities will be neutralized; if it complies, Iran could achieve a different position in international relations.
Expressing that the United States seeks better relations with Iran, Vance said that sanctions relief and economic gains depend on a change in Iran’s behavior.
