European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated that the decision taken by the member states would bring significant momentum to the negotiation process and marked a historic turning point.

Highlighting the future of the negotiations and the efforts made by the candidate countries, Kos said, "On Monday, Ukraine and Moldova will take their biggest step since the launch of EU accession negotiations in 2023. I congratulate both countries on their commitment and dedication to the European path."

Emphasizing the importance of the decision and the intensive period of work ahead, Kos concluded her message by saying: "The Member States' decision this evening to give the green light to opening the fundamentals cluster gives new momentum to the ongoing negotiations. This is truly a moment to celebrate. And a time to roll up our sleeves and work even harder."
