European Council President Costa: We will open the cluster on fundamental principles
Brussels, June 12 (Hibya) - European Council President Antonio Costa announced that EU member states have agreed to open the first cluster of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, stating that the process has reached one of its key milestones.
European Council President Antonio Costa provided information about the new phase that will begin with the joint decision of the member states, emphasizing the symbolic and legal significance of the first cluster to be opened.
Referring to the timetable and content of the negotiations, Costa said, "Today, the European Union took an important step. All member states agreed to open the first cluster of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova."
Speaking about the Intergovernmental Conference, Costa stated, "At the first Intergovernmental Conference to be held on Monday, we will open the cluster on fundamental principles, which forms the backbone of the accession process."
Costa concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the chapters to be opened reflect the Union's core values: "This cluster covers the fundamental values and principles on which the EU is built, from the rule of law to strong democratic institutions. It is a testament to the determination, courage, and hard work both countries have shown in advancing reforms despite enormous challenges."
