Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said Ukraine and Moldova had moved one step closer to membership with the opening of two additional clusters each in their European Union (EU) accession negotiations, noting that EU enlargement is of critical importance for Europe’s security and stability.

In a statement on social media, Tsahkna said: “EU enlargement is a strategic investment in Europe’s security, stability and prosperity. Ukraine and Moldova belong in the EU. We must maintain this momentum by swiftly opening the remaining clusters as well.”

Tsahkna also said he welcomed the progress in the negotiation processes with Montenegro and Albania, noting that three clusters had been closed with Montenegro and one with Albania, and stressed that a stronger and broader EU is in everyone’s common interest.
