Tajani reacts to statue attack in Lebanon
Rome (Hibya) – Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said he welcomed Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar’s condemnation of the incident in which a soldier smashed a statue of Jesus with a hammer in a Christian village in southern Lebanon.
Tajani described the act carried out by a soldier from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as a serious incident, stating that such attacks contain hatred toward Christians.
Emphasizing that Christians play an important role in peace in the Middle East, Tajani said the incident is unacceptable and must not be repeated.
Tajani added that targeting symbols of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam is not a sign of strength but of weakness, and that it contradicts the principles of freedom and interfaith dialogue.
