Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha made strong statements regarding developments surrounding the 2026 Venice Biennale.

Sybiha stated that developments such as the resignation of the jury clearly reveal the consequences of decisions taken on international art platforms. He emphasized that during wartime, the culture of the aggressor country cannot be neutral and opposed the use of art as a tool of propaganda.

Describing the Venice Biennale administration’s decision to accept Russia as “shameful,” Sybiha said that this decision damages the reputation of the event.

Sybiha noted that Ukraine is grateful to individuals and institutions opposing this stance while adhering to democratic values, and called on the Biennale administration to reconsider its decision.

Sybiha emphasized that the international art community should return to the principled stance it has maintained since the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
