Prevot: Belgium is open to economic cooperation with China
Brussels, May 10 (Hibya) - Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prevot held a series of meetings in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Beijing during his visit to China between April 27 and May 1. Prevot stated that the visit aimed to strengthen economic and diplomatic relations between Belgium and China.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prevot met with local officials during his engagements that began in Hong Kong. As part of his visit to China, Prevot evaluated opportunities for cooperation in the fields of aviation, maritime transport and logistics. In Shanghai and Zhejiang, he also visited facilities of Belgian and international companies and received information about technology, production and R&D activities. In addition, Prevot attended events marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Belgium’s Consulate General in Hong Kong in 1926.
In Beijing, Prevot met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vice Premier He Lifeng, stating that they discussed economic and trade relations as well as international developments. Prevot said, “I emphasized that Belgium is open to economic cooperation with China, but this relationship must be balanced and based on mutual benefit.”
In his overall assessment of the visit, Prevot stated, “China’s progress will not slow down. Europe must also adapt while protecting its own interests and continue dialogue and cooperation.”
