Guterres: In a world shaken by conflict, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless
New York, June 13 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a message marking the start of the 100-day countdown to the International Day of Peace, highlighting the importance of civil actors working for peace at the local level in the face of global conflicts.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres referred to the sense of helplessness created by global crises and emphasized that people should take inspiration from the unsung heroes who initiate social transformation.
Praising the role of field workers and civil society in building peace, Guterres said, "In a world shaken by conflict, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless. Yet around us are everyday peacebuilders—from volunteers and campaigners to civil society leaders—who show us how to take action and reshape our communities for the better."
Addressing the global public, Guterres concluded his message by saying, "As we begin the 100-day countdown to the International Day of Peace, let us honor these agents of change and draw inspiration from their example."
