UN Secretary-General Guterres stated that they are working in close coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) and said, “I would like to express my support to the Spanish government and others in their fight against hantavirus, in close coordination with our colleagues at the WHO.”

Secretary-General Guterres stated that the current public health risk is low and said, “Although the current public health risk of the virus is low, it is important that international health efforts ensure the safety of everyone, including the passengers and crew of the MV Hondius.”
