Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced that the government of Nauru has decided to open an embassy in Jerusalem.

Sa’ar thanked Nauru President David Adeang and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Justice Lionel Aingimea, saying: "I thank the Government of Nauru for its cabinet decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel."

Recalling that he met with Aingimea last month, Sa’ar said: "Nauru’s embassy will become the tenth embassy in Jerusalem. It will also be the fifth embassy to open since I took office."

Sa’ar added that he reached a similar understanding last week with Colombia’s incoming foreign minister, stating: "Nauru is a true friend of Israel, and the opening of the embassy will contribute to deepening relations between our two countries."

Noting that Israel’s Foreign Ministry would provide all necessary support to ensure the embassy opens as soon as possible, Sa’ar said: "We look forward to welcoming you soon to our eternal capital, Jerusalem."
