Pavel: Democracy has won in Hungary
Prague, April 13 (Hibya) — Czech President Petr Pavel congratulated Peter Magyar on winning the elections in Hungary.
Czech President Petr Pavel emphasized the democratic importance of the electoral process and spoke about its impact across Europe.
Assessing the elections, Pavel said: “The elections in Hungary were exceptional even in a European context. They attracted extraordinary interest both among voters and in Europe and overseas.”
Pavel added: “Their significance is demonstrated by the highest turnout since the fall of communism. People voted between clear alternatives represented by Viktor Orbán and Peter Magyar.”
Highlighting the will of the voters and political civility, Pavel stated: “Voters expressed their support for change, their message is clear. I congratulate the election winner Peter Magyar and the Tisza party. It is also commendable that Viktor Orbán immediately accepted defeat and announced a move to the opposition.”
Pavel concluded: “Democracy has won in Hungary. People wanted change and a European orientation. This is good news for Europe.”
