The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement regarding a report published by The Atlantic alleging that Egypt had warned Israel about a possible Hamas attack before the October 7, 2023 attack.

In a post on its social media account, the Prime Minister’s Office said the claim had previously been denied and that on October 11, 2023, it had officially rejected the allegation that Egypt had warned Israel about the October 7 attack.

The statement said that Abbas Kamel, then head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had neither met nor spoken by phone in the months before October 7, and that no Israeli intelligence official had conveyed such a warning to Netanyahu.

The Atlantic, however, alleged in its September 25 report that Kamel traveled to Israel on September 26, 2023, and conveyed a warning to senior Israeli officials that Hamas was preparing for a major attack. The report said Kamel did not provide specific information about the date of the attack or how it would be carried out.

Israel’s then-National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi also denied to The Atlantic that Kamel had visited Israel on September 26 or that Egypt had issued such a warning.
