Macron: We will not allow Russia to finance its war effort
Paris, June 25 (Hibya) – French President Emmanuel Macron said the French Navy had boarded the oil tanker "Deliver" off the coast of Sicily after it violated maritime law.
French President Emmanuel Macron commented on maritime security, efforts to combat the shadow fleet, and measures to prevent Russia from financing its war.
Describing the operation and Europe's firm stance on the matter, Macron said: "On Tuesday, the French Navy boarded the oil tanker Deliver after it violated maritime law off the coast of Sicily. This latest action, carried out just days after a similar operation by the United Kingdom, demonstrates Europe's determination."
Emphasizing that sanctions would be strictly enforced and Russia's financial resources restricted, Macron stated: "We will not allow the shadow fleet to circumvent sanctions and finance Russia's war effort. Europe is determined."
Highlighting the steps needed to achieve peace in Ukraine, Macron concluded: "Europe will make every necessary effort to increase the cost of the war for Russia and help secure a strong and lasting peace in Ukraine."
