Lula meets with Swiss President Parmelin
Evian-les-Bains, June 15 (Hibya) - Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced that he and Swiss President Guy Parmelin agreed to expand cooperation in trade, artificial intelligence, energy transition, and defense.
Lula da Silva met with Swiss President Guy Parmelin in Geneva ahead of the G7 Summit held in Evian-les-Bains, France.
The meeting highlighted the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 18th anniversary of their strategic partnership, while discussions focused on strengthening economic and political ties between Brazil and Switzerland.
Lula noted that Switzerland is one of the most important sources of foreign direct investment in Brazil and said both sides agreed to work together to diversify export products in bilateral trade.
The leaders also agreed that the planned agreement between Mercosur and EFTA presents an important opportunity to increase trade volume in a global environment characterized by growing protectionism and unilateral policies.
The parties decided to expand cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, energy transition, critical minerals, biotechnology, healthcare, and defense.
During the meeting, Parmelin also congratulated Brazil on hosting COP30 in Belém and praised the country's progress in combating deforestation.
