Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budrys shared a post on his social media account on the occasion of Freedom Day on August 31.

Budrys noted that on this date in 1993, the last soldier of the Soviet Red Army left Lithuania.

Stating that the final chapter of the Soviet occupation of Lithuania ended with the departure of the occupying army from the country's territory, Budrys argued that authoritarian regimes today are attempting to redraw borders, erase nations and challenge the rules-based international order.

Budrys said peace cannot be built on illusions and freedom cannot be sustained without determination, adding that Lithuania continues to work for a free and safer, strong and resilient Europe.
