Lahbib: Noto’s experience is a model for Europe
Brussels, April 3 (Hibya) - European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib said that the disaster management experience of the town of Noto in Italy serves as an example for European communities.
Hadja Lahbib drew attention to the earthquake, landslide, and subsequent floods experienced by the town of Noto in 2024. The Commissioner said, “In these disasters, which occurred just 8 months apart, hundreds of people lost their lives, were injured, and were displaced”.
Lahbib noted that Noto developed an emergency plan suited to its geography and population, stating, “Climate-related disasters are occurring faster than the capacity of our systems. Noto’s experience forms the basis of a concrete and applicable preparedness strategy for communities across Europe”.
