Jetten: Freedom of passage cannot be obstructed
Amsterdam, April 17 (Hibya) - Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten stated that freedom of passage in the Strait of Hormuz must be preserved, announcing that options for increasing pressure on Iran and a possible military mission are being evaluated.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten stressed that freedom of passage through the Strait of Hormuz must under no circumstances be obstructed.
Jetten said the current situation is having global repercussions and noted that developments are directly affecting many countries, including the Netherlands. In this context, he said they met via videoconference with the leaders of 50 countries and discussed possible solutions.
Jetten stated that the first step toward a solution is to increase international pressure on Iran to respect the principle of free passage. In addition, he said that a military mission option aimed at ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz after the conflicts end is also on the table.
Noting that the Netherlands is evaluating this possibility and working on military planning with its allies, Jetten said that despite the announced ceasefire, uncertainty still remains in the region and developments are being closely monitored.
Prime Minister Jetten emphasized the continuity of maritime trade, stressing that shipping must always be able to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without obstruction.
