Israel criticizes Guterres over Volker Türk
Jerusalem, July 23 (Hibya) – Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized reports alleging that United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is seeking to secure an extension of the term of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.
In a statement posted on social media, Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres over the alleged effort to extend the term of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.
The statement described the alleged initiative as "a moral failure" and argued that the decision on whether to appoint Volker Türk for a second term should be left to Guterres' successor.
The ministry also claimed that Volker Türk has demonstrated a biased approach toward Israel, stating, "The answer is not rewriting the rules, but accountability."
