The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that Hamas commander Jamal Mahmoud Abu Kamil, who was said to have participated in the Oct. 7 attack, was eliminated in an airstrike in the Gaza City area directed by Shin Bet.

In a statement, the IDF claimed that Abu Kamil was one of the Hamas members who participated in the Oct. 7 attack on Israeli territory and that he continued planning attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians throughout the war.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out by the IDF based on intelligence guidance from Shin Bet. Abu Kamil was reported to have been eliminated in an airstrike.

The IDF announced that forces under the IDF Southern Command continue to be deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement and will continue their activities aimed at “eliminating all immediate threats.”
