Fletcher calls for increased humanitarian aid for Gaza and Somalia
New York, May 2 (Hibya) - UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher called for scaling up humanitarian efforts in Gaza and accelerating aid flows to Somalia.
Fletcher made an assessment regarding humanitarian efforts in Gaza following the ceasefire.
Fletcher said: “Thanks to the expansion of humanitarian efforts after the ceasefire in Gaza, many lives have been saved. However, much remains to be done: we need more to sustain access, ensure the protection of civilians, and strengthen neutrality and partnerships.”
Fletcher also addressed the humanitarian situation in Somalia, drawing attention to the UN Secretary-General’s call and emphasizing the need to accelerate customs procedures and remove additional logistics, war, and fuel charges to ensure uninterrupted humanitarian aid.
