President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced on his social media account that he received Sri Lanka's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, on October 14. During the meeting, the organization of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Summit in Baku and Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the conference were addressed.

Herath expressed his pleasure at being invited to the summit and congratulated Aliyev on holding the event in Baku and on Azerbaijan's successful chairmanship. Herath noted his belief that the summit would contribute to expanding cooperation among the participating countries.

Aliyev expressed gratitude to member countries and Sri Lanka for supporting the decision regarding Azerbaijan's CICA chairmanship, stating that this backing is an indicator of respect and trust toward Azerbaijan alongside its successful chairmanship.

During the meeting, Herath expressed gratitude for the humanitarian aid provided by Azerbaijan to Sri Lanka during recent natural disasters. The parties assessed cooperation within international organizations, particularly the United Nations (UN), the Non-Aligned Movement, and CICA.

Aliyev and Herath also discussed opportunities for enhancing cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and tourism in addition to political relations. It was noted during the meeting that Sri Lankan students study in Azerbaijan, and views were exchanged regarding the future of cooperation in education.
