The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continued deportation proceedings last week against undocumented migrants with criminal records.

In a statement dated August 14, it was reported that the undocumented migrants deported included individuals convicted of crimes such as murder, driving under the influence, sexual assault, theft and unlicensed firearms trafficking.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said ICE personnel were working to apprehend and deport undocumented migrants described as dangerous, noting that individuals linked to murder, driving under the influence, sexual assault and weapons trafficking offenses were deported last week.

DHS also released the names and criminal histories of 5 individuals deported last week.

Guatemalan national Ramon Gregorio Herrera-Ruiz was reportedly deported on August 4 and had been convicted of murder, driving under the influence and driving without a license. Herrera-Ruiz was also reported to have arrest records for obstructing police duties and public-order offenses.

Mexican national Jorge Martinez-Guerrero was also deported on August 4 and had been convicted of involuntary manslaughter and illegal reentry.

Indian national Jashandeep Singh was deported on August 3 and had been convicted of sexual coercion involving the use of force, trespassing into a residence and theft.

Mexican national Berta Montano Jimenez was deported on August 6 and had been convicted of unlicensed firearms dealing and manufacturing, as well as delivering firearms to a carrier without written notice.

Chilean national Williams Alejandro Cortes Contreras was deported on August 4 and had been convicted of first-degree residential burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.

In its statement, DHS drew a direct link between the increase in deportations and crime rates in the United States falling to historic lows.
