Ukrainian President Zelensky made a statement regarding an airstrike in the city of Sumy that he said was carried out by Russia.

In a social media post, Zelensky said all emergency teams continued working in the area following the attack. He said four guided aerial bombs hit the city center and that one of the strikes targeted a school building where classes were underway.

Zelensky said teachers and the school administration evacuated students to a shelter in time and that around 100 people were safely evacuated.

Zelensky said damage was also reported in an area of private homes, adding, “So far, unfortunately, two people are known to have been killed.” He said 6 people were injured in the attack, 3 of them children, and expressed condolences to the families of those killed.

In his statement, Zelensky called on the United States, Europe and other partners to increase pressure on Russia, arguing that Russia would not stop its attacks without pressure.

A September 28 statement by the Ukrainian Presidency also reported deaths and injuries from Russian airstrikes across the country, with the Sumy and Kharkiv regions among the areas targeted.
