Von der Leyen: Europe must accelerate defense production
Brussels, April 15 (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need to increase Europe’s defense capacity during her meeting with NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Christopher G. Cavoli Grynkewich.

Von der Leyen stated that the war in Ukraine is ongoing and that Russia is increasing its defense industry production, stressing that Europe must also rapidly boost its defense investments and production capacity.
She highlighted that Europe needs an innovative defense industry capable of producing both advanced high-tech systems and more cost-effective next-generation solutions, noting that Ukraine’s battlefield experience could be utilized in this process.
She also pointed out that in an increasingly complex security environment, strong cooperation between the European Union and NATO is one of the fundamental elements of Europe’s security.
