Ukraine’s May 8 message: We are defending our freedom once again
Kyiv, May 8 (Hibya) - In a message published on the occasion of Victory and Remembrance Day against Nazism, Ukraine commemorated the millions of people who lost their lives during World War II and stated that today it is once again fighting for Europe’s security against Russian aggression.
In the statement published by Ukraine as part of the May 8 Victory and Remembrance Day against Nazism, it was stated that millions of people who lost their lives during World War II, as well as those who fought against Nazism, were being honored.
The statement emphasized that World War II was one of the greatest tragedies in human history, noting that millions of Ukrainians served in the armies of the anti-Hitler coalition and joined underground resistance movements. It was also stated that Ukrainian territory became the scene of major battles and severe human losses, with more than 8 million Ukrainians losing their lives during the war.
The statement said that 1945 did not bring lasting peace to Ukraine and argued that repression continued during the Soviet Union period. It also noted that today Ukraine is once again forced to defend its freedom and the security of all Europe against Russian aggression.
The message emphasized that the memory of World War II should serve as a call for responsibility and determination to preserve a just and lasting peace.
