Syria condemns Jordanian airstrikes on Daraa
Damascus, October 27 (Hibya) - Syria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned Jordanian airstrikes targeting several locations in Daraa Governorate, reporting deaths and injuries resulting from the operations. The ministry stated that Syrian airspace had been violated and announced efforts to establish a joint security committee between the two countries to ensure border security and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
In a statement issued on October 27, 2026, Syria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates addressed recent security developments in the border region between Syria and Jordan.
The statement alleged that Jordan had carried out bombing operations targeting several locations in Syria's Daraa Governorate two days earlier and had entered Syrian airspace without prior coordination. The ministry reported fatalities and injuries resulting from the attacks.
The ministry also condemned an attack on the Mar Girgis Church that had taken place several days earlier. The statement described the attack as targeting Jordan's social fabric.
The Syrian authorities stated that the operations in Daraa violated the country's sovereignty and were inconsistent with good-neighborly relations and the coordination framework between the two countries. The statement also suggested that certain parties were seeking to undermine Syrian-Jordanian relations and create tensions between the two countries.
The ministry announced that efforts were underway, in direct coordination with Jordan, to urgently establish a joint field and security committee to preserve bilateral relations and ensure border security. The committee would aim to end violations, prevent the recurrence of similar incidents and strengthen security coordination in the border region.
