Jetten commemorates those who died in the war against Japan
Amsterdam, August 14 (Hibya) – Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten said the events that took place during World War II in the former Dutch East Indies continue to affect the lives of millions of people and commemorated those who lost their lives during the war and the Japanese occupation.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten attended the National Remembrance Ceremony in The Hague on August 15 and, together with Minister Lilian Jeannette Sanderse, laid a wreath on behalf of the Council of Ministers.
Jetten said, “To this day, the horrific events that took place during World War II in the Dutch East Indies continue to affect the lives of millions of people.”
Noting that the number of survivors is gradually declining and that younger generations are passing on their experiences, stories and emotions, Jetten stressed that this must not be forgotten and that attention should be drawn to the human stories of this important period in history.
Jetten said that on August 15, all victims who lost their lives in the war against Japan and during the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies are commemorated.
